We believe that the change in your pocket can make a change in people’s lives. We are personally committed to supporting charities and, since we own 100% of SCOTTeVEST, we choose to donate a significant portion of profits generated to charity.
In addition to amounts we personally donate, SCOTTeVEST donates any returned garments that can't be resold as new for whatever reason, to our local thrift store, Goldmine, which in turn donates all the proceeds to fund our local library. You should know that virtually every other major clothing company and department store in the USA destroys any returned products.
We view this as incredibly wasteful. The reason other apparel companies destroy rather than donate their products is that they don’t want their defective garments being worn and reflecting poorly on their brand. We think this is silly. Over the years, we have donated thousands of garments to the Goldmine.
When we started SCOTTeVEST in 2000, we contemplated doing what other charitably-minded companies do and use our commitment to charity as part of our marketing. To do that, however, we felt that we would need to slightly increase our prices to insure that we would always have the funds available to make these donations. As a very small business, we knew there could be years that might not be as profitable and the only way to fulfill our promise was to make sure we built the amount to donate into our prices. We didn’t want to do that. In effect, we believe that companies that do this are using their charity hook as a marketing gimmick. To be clear, there’s nothing wrong with this approach, but one that we personally don’t endorse. Our goal is to run a profitable business so we can personally support the charities we choose.
At SCOTTeVEST, we believe that you should decide what charities you wish to support. In turn, we charge you a fair price for our products.

Mission: We do what no other clothing brand does for the community, we donate all of our returned products to our local thrift store. Most people don’t really raise the question “what do companies do with these products?” Well, to answer that question, they throw them away! Yes, it’s shocking and incredibly wasteful. The products are still in near perfect condition, they are just missing a small detail or have a stubborn zipper. We load all of these up and donate them all. You want to know the best part, besides helping people? We get to see the smiling faces of people that got one of our products for a crazy deal, when normally they might not have been able to afford it.
Mission: Mountain Humane is on a mission to change lives by connecting pets and people. Our success in making Blaine County a no-kill community is only the start – more than 10,000 dogs and cats are still euthanized annually in Idaho that we know of (not all shelters document and report their population numbers, so that number is likely much higher). This is a huge burden on the staff at these shelters and is a tragedy for the animals. No one wants euthanasia to be the solution for pet overpopulation but not all shelters have the resources or circumstances that allow them to become no-kill. And refusing to euthanize animals if you can’t house and care for them humanely, just to be “no-kill,” is not a humane solution.
Mission: The Hunger Coalition builds a healthy community through access to good food and adresses the root causes of food insecurity in collaboration with key partners.
It takes a lot of courage, a lot of heart, and a lot of brainpower to make radical change. The food justice movement is working toward an equitable local food system where everyone can fulfill their right to good food.
